Bushcraft trips are important for Ngururrpa people and Ngururrpa Rangers as a way of handing down traditional bush craft knowledge and techniques, food- good hunting areas, and water sources as well as Ngururrpa storylines.

Ngururrpa held their first bushcraft trip tin 2024 for 10 rangers to attend on country with senior Ngururrpa men to guide and teach them.

Ngururrpa ARP Coordinator Luke Parker said the trip which ran for 5 days was identified as high priority to take place for the rangers.

“Ngururrpa people recognised it was of great importance for their rangers so they will know of special places- men’s and women’s scared areas, where to find water sources as well as Ngururrpa’s traditional storylines and traditional knowledge when on Ngururrpa Country,” Luke said.

“To be invited and accepted to attend was a personal highlight and honour for me and will certainly help in the work we do together for Ngururrpa Country.

“Being present to witness the handing down of traditional knowledge of boomerang, clapping sticks and woomera making technics and hearing stories of country being told from the Senior Ngururrpa Men to the younger Ngururrpa Men, (some of whom were on their first Ranger Trip) of special and scared areas of Ngururrpa.”
